Yes! This is all about me!

I got to spend some time on the phone mentoring my mentor this morning.

This lady is a business whiz and one of the most successful women I know, so I was honored to be able to give her some advice that she could use as she is usually the one pouring her wisdom into me!

It had been a while since she and I have had a chance to chat so our conversation was all over the place. Like most women, one thing we got into was weight loss and stress.

I found myself talking about my time in the gym and how it had really changed my life. Not because of the muscle I'm gaining or the fat I'm burning but because I'm taking an hour every day just for me! Just for me! No one else! It's my time!

At first I felt really guilty about it. I mean my schedule is already crazy hectic with work, my business, my church, my family, etc and most of the time there just aren't enough hours in the day to get everything done. Going to the gym every day after work means I don't get home until 6:00 pm or later and dinner's not done sometimes until after 8:00 pm. Sometimes, I go to bed with dirty dishes in the sink (please don't tell the FlyLady).

But...

I feel so good! When I'm home, my mind is clear, my attention is more focused on my family and I don't feel like everyone else is sucking me dry.

Yes, I admit it, I have felt animosity towards my family and friends because they always needed something from me! Some days I just wanted to scream "WHAT ABOUT ME?"! Now you all know I have the dearest family and friends and this was never their intention or their fault. I was putting the pressure on myself.

For two or three years now I've heard people like Staci Wallace talk about "securing your own mask" but it wasn't until I was sharing this with my mentor this morning that I realized that's exactly what my gym time is for me - "securing my own mask".

Being successful takes time, it takes energy and it often takes your focus off of something very important - YOU!

Today I want to challenge you to find something to call "yours". Take time for yourself and don't feel guilty about it! Everyone that depends on you will reap the benefits! You deserve it and so do they!

The gym is my "thing" right now - what is your "thing"?

Eat safe...

...buy local

Being credited with one death and 77 people reported ill, the recent salmonella outbreak has led to one of the largest recalls in U.S. history. Food giant Cargill pulled 36 million pounds of ground turkey from the market.

Ground turkey has long been recommended by nutritoinist and diet experts as a lower-fat, heart-healtier protien option for the health consious consumer.  Experts are now concerned that the recent salmonella related recall will cause people to turn back to beef as a convenient and "safe" alternative.

Consumers who are wary of ground turkey because of the Cargill recall should ask a butcher to freshly grind their poultry. This is also an opportunity to try vegetarian substitutes sold in the stores or buy lower fat meat options like bison or buffalo.

For many, the most troubling aspect of the outbreak is that the strain of salmonella that's making people sick is resistant to several antibiotics.  How did this happen?  According to the Food and Drug Administration, farmers who raise food-producing animals use about 29 million pounds of antibiotics each year. That's about four times the amount of antibiotics doctors prescribe to people each year. "Animals are given antibiotics for a number of reasons — including to get them to grow faster," explains Gail Hansen, a veterinarian who works for the Pew Campaign on Human Health and Industrial Farming. "[Antibiotics] are given to perfectly healthy animals to convert their food more efficiently so they can get to market faster."

Our history...

Jason & Amy with the founder, Lee Causey and his wife, Anita
...with FirstFitness

Over the last year, the company that we partner with, FirstFitness International, has become FirstFitness Nutrition.  We attended the "unveiling" of the new company this past weekend at the National Convention in Dallas, TX.  We had an amazing time and learned about a lot of new and exciting things coming up in the next few months, including an opportunity to go to Punta Cana for FREE!

As many of you may know, Jason and I were not seeking to be in the weight loss or wellness business at all when this opportunity fell into our laps.  However, after an amazing experience with their weight loss product, Suddenly Slim, we couldn't say no to the business opportunity that followed.

In April of 2009, I was introduced to Suddenly Slim by my cousin in Tennessee. She claimed I could lose up to 10 lbs in 10 days.  I was skeptical but decided I had nothing to lose since she was offering me a money back guarantee.  I lost 10.5 lbs in 10 days and went on to lose 22 lbs in 30 days.  Immediately, friends and family wanted this product. I had proven that it worked and watched many others be successful with it as well.  Yet, I was skeptical of the business.

After doing the research, I found that FirstFitness had been in business since 1989, 22 years now.  I also found that they offered one of the highest commissions available to their distributors of any other company of its kind, with the largest percentage of income going back to distributors. And the owners and founders of the company have the same core values that we do.

In October of 2009, we decided there was no way we could go wrong and we purposely launched our business and became Directors with the company!  Since then we have earned a nice supplemental income through retail and residual income, won a trip to Las Vegas and two 7-day Caribbean cruises. This added income has also allowed us to pay for a week long beach vacation for our family, buy a new home computer and go on several spontaneous weekend retreats together.

Coming back from the National Convention in Dallas, we are even more certain that we've made the right choice, with the right company!  We are on a mission to enrich the lives of others through health, wealth and lasting transformations!

If you are tired of trying to lose weight with programs that give you no personal support, tired of trying to make ends meet, just plain TIRED of being TIRED, we want to help! If you want LASTING CHANGE and  a LIFESTYLE of HEALTH and WELLNESS for your entire family,  we would love to coach you in an ALL NATURAL, step-by-step program with guaranteed results.  Call us immediately to get started and don't waist another day being tired!

Give me a K...

...he's strong to the finich cause he eats his spinach

Last week I told you about Vitamin D, D3 to be specific. Since then I've learned that a Health Claim has been filed with the FDA for Vitamin D. Now that may sound scary, but what it actually means is that since there have been certain scientific evidence that allows producers to make specific claims about the benefit of the product.

This week I want to share with you what I've learned about Vitamin K. This is the 2nd of the 8 ingredients that make up the new, most advanced wellness product available in the United States today, 8Rx. Most people talk about Vitamin K if they have used or know someone who uses Coumadin, an anticoagulant drug that works by inhibiting the body's blood clotting process. But it does more than just help the blood clot. Look here at the benefits:

• Helps prevent osteoporosis
• Helps reduce risk of cardiovascular disease
• Helps fight cancer
• Helps maintain healthy blood clotting
• Helps prevent excessive bleeding and hemorrhaging
• Cofactor in helping to prevent atherosclerosis of arteries
• Cofactor in bone metabolism by acting synergistically with Vitamin A & D

Vitamin K deficiencies are evident if you have symptoms related to problematic blood clotting or bleeding, like heavy menstrual bleeding, gum bleeding, bleeding within the digestive tract, nose bleeding, easy bruising, blood in the urine, prolonged clotting times, hemorrhaging, and anemia. Bone related symptoms can include loss of bone (osteopenia), decrease in bone mineral density (osteoporosis), and fractures-including common age-related fractures like that of the hips. Another set of vitamin K deficiency-related symptoms involves excess calcium in soft tissues like hardening of the arteries or calcium-related problems with heart valve function.

People with digestive issues tend to be prone to a Vitamin K deficiency. Particularly those with inflammatory bowel disease, ulcerative colitis, celiac disease, short bowel syndrome, and digestive tract surgeries (like intestinal resection), or problems with pancreatic function, liver function, or gallbladder function.

Vitamin K can be obtained naturally from spinach, Brussels sprouts, Swiss chard, green beans, asparagus, broccoli, kale and mustard greens, green peas and carrots.

I also read that Vitamin K may play a role in the prevention and/or treatment of the following health conditions:

* Bone fracture
* Chronic liver disease
* Cystic fibrosis
* Inflammatory bowel disease
* Liver cancer
* Pancreatic cancer
* Kidney stones
* Nausea and vomiting during pregnancy
* Thrombosis

The new 8Rx formula contains a synergistic blend of Vitamin D3, Vitamin K, DHA (Omega 3 - Fish Oil), Olive Leaf Extract/Sesame Lignans, 2-AEP Calcium, Alpha Lipoic Acid, Turmeric Powder/Piperine, and Green Tea that is unavailable in any other single supplement. There are over 1500 clinical studies published proving the health benefits of these ingredients supporting that they may help reduce the risk of heart disease, cancer and diabetes. Stay tuned for more info on the benefits of these all-natural components!

Pour some sugar...

... on me

Nutrition and wellness is getting a lot of attention lately!

First, Kate Moss's addiction to wellness and her $1 million gym!

Yesterday the U.S. government issued new dietary guidelines. 112 pages of them, now who's going to read that? Maybe some of you who are always fussing about insomnia on Facebook. I found the 4-page Executive Summary a more realistic read. Basically it says, eat less salt, sugar, pizza and dessert and more fruits and vegetables!

Additionally, over the next few weeks, New York City will post this ad in subways and around town:

and running this commercial!

What do you think about that?

24,746 things on my to-do list...

...for 2011

In the spirit of "making a list", I thought I'd get a head start on the annual tradition of New Year's resolutions. But instead of dwelling on what I'm not doing well, I thought I'd make a list of all the things I could do to be a better me in 2011. While 24,746 things may seem like a lot, once you read the list I think you'll get that its not going to be too overwhelming! ;)

I guess you could say I'm resolving to take more time for myself, my husband, my family and my community. I have other things I want to focus on too, but this is the fun stuff!

1 5k
4 facials
4 trips to the beach
12 bottles of wine
12 girls days out
12 haircuts
12 massages
12 new outfits
15 pedicures and manicures
26 family nights
52 date nights
52 memory verses
52 yoga classes
52 Zumba classes
156 workouts
200 bare-feet covered
300 meals for strangers
365 hours alone with God
23,360 ounces of water

Just to clarify, these are all minimums! As far as this list is concerned, 'more is more'! ;) Don't worry I will be setting some limits for myself in other areas!

Listen...

... for His voice
Oh, no, His voice wasn't in a bush burning
It wasn't in a rushing wind
It was still
It was small

Be still & listen

Pop a Squat...

...in public.

Today is World Toilet Day! I learned of this in an email I received this morning. So, I started doing a little research.

Here's what I've learned:

Having traveled to some remote areas of Honduras a couple of times, I have experienced less than desirable accommodations, recognizing that we take "modern" convenience for granted. Even doing so, I never considered what it might be like to live in an environment with absolutely no sanitation. I think this spoke to me even more than my own experience in Honduras:

"modesty forces women to poop in the fields before sunrise, or to hold it until after the sun sets. Imagine if you weren't allowed to relieve yourself during daylight hours, no matter how bad you wanted to go! What's more, many cases of rape occur in these dark and deserted areas."

I just can't begin to imagine. So, when you flush today, do so with gratitude and thanksgiving and say a prayer for those with no place to poo...

Oh, and go here for details on squatting in public!

Put some clothes on...

... your neighbor.

I want to introduce you to your new neighbor, my friend, James.

Maybe you met James when he was hanging around with us earlier in the year. Maybe you have no idea who or what I'm talking about and you're thinking, I've never seen this guy and he certainly doesn't live next door to me.

The truth is, he doesn't live anywhere. He's a ... "vagabond", "vagrant", "wanderer"... well not exactly. All of these terms by definition indicate that he'd have no purpose or direction in his travels. But for my friend James, this is a choice, and if you talk to him, you'll quickly find out that he doesn't classify himself as anything more than "a follower of Jesus". I'll let you read his story for yourself, I believe you will find it rather inspiring!

What I will tell you about James is that he is the founder of Clothe Your Neighbor as Yourself. At the foundation of what he does, he sells t-shirts and with the profits, he lives among and provides for our neighbors.

This organization is giving you a chance to kill two birds with one stone in this "season of giving". Here's what I mean:

1. You have a list of people who you want to give something for Christmas

2. You want to be in category 3 and "give back"

When you purchase one of these shirts for that special some one on your list, your new neighbor, James is going to take care of #2 and put you in category 3!

And thus, you will have JOY and LIVE LONGER as a result!

I'll be putting my order in and marking some names off of my list today! I hope you will do the same.

Be sure to check out the CYNY website and to follow them on Facebook and Twitter to travel along with your new neighbor, James.

"..So he asked him, "Which is the most important of all the commandments?" Jesus answered, "Here is the most important one. Moses said, 'Israel, listen to me. The Lord is our God. The Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. Love him with all your mind and with all your strength.'—(Deuteronomy 6:4,5) And here is the second one. 'Love your neighbor as you love yourself.'—(Leviticus 19:18) There is no commandment more important than these." -- Mark 12:28-31

Get in Category 3...

...give!

Unless you are cut off from all forms of media, (and if you're reading this, I know you're not) you are probably in one of the following two categories:

1. Super excited that Christmas is coming, making your list, shopping, putting up your tree, planning Christmas Eve with your family, pulling out your Christmas CD collection, driving those in the next category insane!!

2. Super agitated that Thanksgiving isn't even here yet and we're already talking about Christmas, I mean Halloween wasn't over before the store had out the Christmas decor and now there are pre-Black Friday sales, c'mon!

Well, I'm here to form a third category for you!

3. Hallelujah! Christmas is coming and I am living in abundance because the Lord sent His only Son, Jesus, to die for my sins! I have more than I need and I am super excited to give back this year at Christmas!

Now, I know there are some of you out there who want to be in category 3, but don't know where to start in the "giving back". Maybe you just don't know of anyone in need or don't "trust" charitable organizations. You know, I actually have people who come to me during the holidays and ask if I know of a charity or organization they can give to at this time of year, even those who do not recognize the true meaning of Christmas (you know the part about "I am living in abundance because the Lord sent His only Son, Jesus, to die for my sins!").

Well, I'm here to help! Over the next several weeks, I intend to introduce you to some ministries and some people who I know and love who are serving others in a real and tangible way!

An article I recent read by Drs. Oz and Roizen over at Success Magazine has this to say about helping other:

Almost every study of longevity indicates one secret that makes people healthier and happier: helping others. Some research shows a 60 percent decrease in mortality figures among those who help others; they’re aided by what’s called the “helper’s high.” Specifically, it’s the dignity, the joy, the passion and the purpose of helping others that have these beneficial effects, whether you’re helping another person quit smoking, building a home for a family in need or mentoring a child at school.

So, if you want to find JOY in the season of giving and LIVE LONGER, stay tuned!

Let's Get Physical...

...listen to your body talk!

The physical dimension of wellness provides almost immediate beneficial results-both physical and psychological.

It’s easy to see how the condition of our bodies can have such a profound effect on our overall health.

What is your physical condition? Are you receiving good nutrition, drinking plenty of water, getting regular exercise and maintaining the appropriate weight for your height?

Steps For Improving Physical Wellness

Physical wellness is the ability to apply your knowledge, motivation, commitment, behavior, self management, attitude, and skills toward achieving your personal fitness and health goals. A wise person once said, "Those who think they have no time for exercise will sooner or later have to find time for illness." Physical wellness can be maintained by applying the knowledge and skills of sound nutrition, exercise, and safety to everyday life.

  • Exercise three times a week, 20-30 minutes per session
  • Use the stairs instead of the elevator or escalator, and walk whenever possible
  • Get consistent and adequate sleep
  • Use seat belts and helmets, and encourage others to do so
  • Learn to recognize early signs of illness
  • Listen to your body
  • Practice safe sex
  • Eat breakfast - it's the most important meal of the day
  • Eat a variety of healthy foods
  • Stop smoking and protect yourself against second-hand smoke
  • Control your meal portions and try to eat smaller, more frequent meals throughout the day
  • Use sugar, salt, fat, and alcohol in moderation

Physical Wellness Assessment

The physical dimension of wellness involves encouraging regular activities that produce endurance, flexibility and strength. Read each statement carefully and respond honestly by using the following scoring:

Almost always = 2 points -- Sometimes/occasionally = 1 point -- Very seldom = 0 points

_____ 1. I exercise aerobically (vigorous, continuous) for 20 to 30 minutes at least three times per week.

_____ 2. I eat fruits, vegetables, and whole grains every day.

_____ 3. I avoid tobacco products.

_____ 4. I wear a seat belt while riding in and driving a car.

_____ 5. I deliberately minimize my intake of cholesterol, dietary fats, and oils.

_____ 6. I avoid drinking alcoholic beverages or I consume no more than one drink per day.

_____ 7. I get an adequate amount of sleep.

_____ 8. I have adequate coping mechanisms for dealing with stress.

_____ 9. I maintain a regular schedule of immunizations, physicals, dental checkups and self-exams.

_____ 10. I maintain a reasonable weight, avoiding extremes of overweight and underweight.

_______ Total for Physical Wellness Dimension

Score: 15 to 20 Points - Excellent strength in this dimension.

Score: 9 to 14 Points - There is room for improvement. Look again at the items in which you scored 1 or 0. What changes can you make to improve your score?

Score: 0 to 8 Points - This dimension needs a lot of work. Look again at this dimension and challenge yourself to begin making small steps toward growth here. Remember: The goal is balanced wellness. If you scored in this area, consider contacting us for a free consultation.

I scored a 17 with my lowest scores on #1, #7, & #8. What was your score? Post it in the comments below.

What is Wellness?

Wellness according to Webster.com: "\ˈwel-nəs\ n. the quality or state of being in good health especially as an actively sought goal"

Often you may think the concept of wellness only applies to the physical being, but I believe there are multiple dimensions to complete wellness.

  • Wellness is an active process of becoming aware of and making choices towards living a more healthy and fulfilling life.
  • It is a choice to assume responsibility for the quality of your life.
  • Wellness is an alternative to dependency on doctors and drugs, to complacency, to mediocrity and to self-pity, boredom and slothfulness.
Let's look at the things that make up complete wellness:

  • Mental - emotional and intellectual development
  • Physical - the health of your body
  • Financial - stewardship of your resources
  • Spiritual - connection with God
  • Career - fulfilling and purposeful work
  • Social - ease in social situations
  • Family - harmony in your home

  • Use this worksheet to evaluate your current over wellness and check back often as we dig deeper into being "well"!

    I'm so sorry....
