Let's Get Physical...

...listen to your body talk!

The physical dimension of wellness provides almost immediate beneficial results-both physical and psychological.

It’s easy to see how the condition of our bodies can have such a profound effect on our overall health.

What is your physical condition? Are you receiving good nutrition, drinking plenty of water, getting regular exercise and maintaining the appropriate weight for your height?

Steps For Improving Physical Wellness

Physical wellness is the ability to apply your knowledge, motivation, commitment, behavior, self management, attitude, and skills toward achieving your personal fitness and health goals. A wise person once said, "Those who think they have no time for exercise will sooner or later have to find time for illness." Physical wellness can be maintained by applying the knowledge and skills of sound nutrition, exercise, and safety to everyday life.

  • Exercise three times a week, 20-30 minutes per session
  • Use the stairs instead of the elevator or escalator, and walk whenever possible
  • Get consistent and adequate sleep
  • Use seat belts and helmets, and encourage others to do so
  • Learn to recognize early signs of illness
  • Listen to your body
  • Practice safe sex
  • Eat breakfast - it's the most important meal of the day
  • Eat a variety of healthy foods
  • Stop smoking and protect yourself against second-hand smoke
  • Control your meal portions and try to eat smaller, more frequent meals throughout the day
  • Use sugar, salt, fat, and alcohol in moderation

Physical Wellness Assessment

The physical dimension of wellness involves encouraging regular activities that produce endurance, flexibility and strength. Read each statement carefully and respond honestly by using the following scoring:

Almost always = 2 points -- Sometimes/occasionally = 1 point -- Very seldom = 0 points

_____ 1. I exercise aerobically (vigorous, continuous) for 20 to 30 minutes at least three times per week.

_____ 2. I eat fruits, vegetables, and whole grains every day.

_____ 3. I avoid tobacco products.

_____ 4. I wear a seat belt while riding in and driving a car.

_____ 5. I deliberately minimize my intake of cholesterol, dietary fats, and oils.

_____ 6. I avoid drinking alcoholic beverages or I consume no more than one drink per day.

_____ 7. I get an adequate amount of sleep.

_____ 8. I have adequate coping mechanisms for dealing with stress.

_____ 9. I maintain a regular schedule of immunizations, physicals, dental checkups and self-exams.

_____ 10. I maintain a reasonable weight, avoiding extremes of overweight and underweight.

_______ Total for Physical Wellness Dimension

Score: 15 to 20 Points - Excellent strength in this dimension.

Score: 9 to 14 Points - There is room for improvement. Look again at the items in which you scored 1 or 0. What changes can you make to improve your score?

Score: 0 to 8 Points - This dimension needs a lot of work. Look again at this dimension and challenge yourself to begin making small steps toward growth here. Remember: The goal is balanced wellness. If you scored in this area, consider contacting us for a free consultation.

I scored a 17 with my lowest scores on #1, #7, & #8. What was your score? Post it in the comments below.

Meet Mr. Jacksonville...

Davidson DaSilva was a recent winner of the 2010 Dexter Jackson Classic at the UNF Campus in August 2010 in the light heavyweight class. At the competition he was approached by two judges who told him they wanted to see him at nationals and to keep competing because he had “the total package.”

NEXT: THE MR. FLORIDA COMPETITION
DaSilva was then scheduled to compete in the Mr. Florida Competition in Orlando just three weeks later. He made the decision to compete in the middle weight class for this competition, but he would need to lose 30 lbs to qualify for that weight class.

THE POWER OF SUDDENLY SLIM! XTREME
DaSilva and wife Molly are both FirstFitness Distributors and had become products of the product. Molly had recently lost 58lbs in just four months. And although DaSilva was in excellent condition, he still had to qualify in the middle weight class. With the Suddenly Slim! Xtreme 30-Day Program DaSilva lost 30 lbs in just three weeks. He placed as 1st runner up in the Mr. Florida competition and is now in training for the National Championship to be held in June in Chicago, Illinois. DaSilva attributes his rapid and efficient weight loss for the Mr. Florida Competition to Suddenly Slim Xtreme. He believes in all the FirstFitness products for both weight loss and to maintain optimum health. As a professional personal trainer with a clientele of over 50 clients in the Jacksonville, Florida area, DaSilva never misses the opportunity to share
his story and Molly’s story with his clients.

DaSilva is now training to compete in Joe Weider’s Mr. Olympia Competition, a competition which has included past winners such as Dexter Jackson, Ronnie Coleman and seven-time winner Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Meet David Dasilva at the "ALL IN" Business-Building Conference, Saturday, October 23, 2010 - 9am-9pm and hear how he used the Suddenly Slim! program to get in winning shape.

Lead by Example...

"You were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body."-- 1 Corinthians 6:20

Did you know that one third of all children ages 2-19 are overweight or obese? Most of these children will become diabetic. (ABC News) This means our children can expect a shorter life span than that of their parents. It's time we reverse these statistics! It starts with us as parents. Educate your children; create healthy eating habits from the start; lead by example!

Here are some tips for creating a healthy eating environment for children from Dr. Mercola:

"Ultimately, teaching your child the importance of healthy foods and exercise is the key to maintaining health. With that in mind, here are some tips to foster a healthy view of food and self-esteem in your child.

  • Lead by example and seek to maintain optimal body weight for yourself and your spouse
  • Refrain from making jokes about your child’s weight, even if no harm is intended
  • Explain the health risks of being overweight to your child, but avoid comparing your overweight child to other children, including thinner siblings
  • Cook healthy meals for your family, and let your child be involved in making dinner, but avoid making your child eat different food than the rest of the family
  • Encourage your child to make healthy food choices and praise them when they do instead of putting your child down about weight or eating habits
  • Instead of using food as a reward or punishment, have healthy snacks available at all times, and explain to your child the benefits they’ll get from eating these fresh, whole foods

Creating health is actually quite simple when you get right down to it. It’s a matter of returning to the basics of whole, fresh, organically-grown foods packed with all the nutrients your body needs. Team that with exercise and proper sleep, and you have the recipe for growing an optimally healthy child."

Sugar-Free Kids...

"Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward." - Psalm 127:3

As parents, I think we all agree that we are responsible for the well-being of our children. Why is it that so often we neglect their nutritional needs? We are constantly giving them sugary drinks, candy, cookies and more and most of us probably don't think twice about it.

Several studies have found that milk (lactose is a sugar) and other beverages are the two main sources of sugar in children, while candy was the third highest contributor. Another study also showed significant, positive behavioral changes in children who had been diagnosed at ADHD when sugar was removed from their diets.

Did you know...
  • Sugar can contribute to hyperactivity, anxiety, depression, concentration difficulties, and crankiness in children.
  • Sugar can raise adrenaline levels in children.
  • Sugar can contribute to eczema in children.
Here is a great article I found that addresses how we can cut back on sugar in our childrens' diets:
nutrition

Would You Like Sugar With That?

by Aurea Thompson, MSH, RD, CSP, LD/N Board Certified Specialist in Pediatric Nutrition Wolfson Children’s Hospital

Although artificial sweeteners are declared safe for consumption, many people choose not to use them for themselves or their kids because of taste or other personal reasons. Here are some tips on how to reduce sugar intake without using artificial sweeteners.

Rule #1: Learn to like foods that are less sweet.

Replace one-fourth to one-third of the sugar called for in recipes with non-fat dry milk. Here’s how:

Cakes: For each cup of flour, use no more than ½ cup of sugar in cakes.

Cookies: Alter cake-like cookies the same way as above. Altering other noncakelike cookie recipes may result in an unacceptable baked product.

Muffins and quick breads: For each cup of flour, use no more than one tablespoon of sugar.

Yeast breads: For each cup of flour, use no more than one teaspoon of sugar.

Rule #2: Use spices and herbs.

Try using cinnamon, cardamom, or nutmeg to enrich the flavor of foods in place of, or with a reduced amount of sugar.

Rule #3: Add fresh fruit.

Mix fresh fruit into unflavored oatmeal in place of brown sugar, or mix fruit into plain yogurt instead of buying the yogurt with all the cookie and candy toppings. In place of maple syrup, make your own toppings for pancakes and waffles by puréeing fresh fruit and adding a bit of water and vanilla extract.

Rule #4: Sweeten foods with juice.

Use fruit juice or frozen juice concentrate to sweeten foods.

Rule #5: Consider using honey or molasses.

Honey and molasses taste sweeter than table sugar. Using them instead of sugar may help you reduce the total sugar content of a recipe, but by weight, they contain as much sugar (carbohydrate) as table sugar.

Rule #6: Serve cooked fruits and vegetables.

Cooking fruits and vegetables can make them taste sweeter than eating them raw.

Rule #7: Make your own beverages.

Make your own reduced-sugar beverages by mixing together carbonated water and fresh fruit juice.

Rule #8: Make sure your kids get plenty of rest.

Chronic lack of sleep can cause people to crave more sugary foods. Make sure to get plenty of rest whenever you are trying to reduce the amount of sugary foods in your diet.

Rule #9: Make sure your kids don’t go four hours or more in between meals/snacks.

Younger children and toddlers should have regular snack times throughout the day, and older children should be allowed to have sensible snacks in between meals. Keeping your kids on a schedule helps prevent hypoglycemia, or low blood sugar, from occurring. Toddlers and preschoolers may need to have something to eat every two hours to prevent the “hungry tantrums.” By providing a healthy snack schedule, you can help prevent your child from craving sugary foods.

Rule #10: Use fruit for dessert.

Try using the best fruits of the season as an after-dinner dessert! Cut up fresh strawberries, bananas, or melon for toppings on frozen yogurt or applesauce. Or mix blueberries, raspberries and strawberries together with a little “light” whipped cream for dessert. If fresh fruit is not available, try frozen fruit as a topping over fat-free vanilla yogurt, Greek-style yogurt, or yogurt of your choice. Mix frozen fruit with soy milk in the blender for a homemade smoothie...great for an after dinner treat in the summer!

Holy Week - The Tale of an Almighty Hero

"It's official, my favorite week of the year has begun! Today my Hero came into town on a donkey to die for my sins!! Thank you Jesus!"

This is my favorite time of year! I always like to reflect on exactly what happened the week that Jesus suffered and died for my sins. I've wanted to post the details, but haven't taken the time, so I was excited to see that Carmen from the JoyFM posted this today -

"While many of us are familiar with Holy Week, we may not all know the specific time line of the week. - The point being:

He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.
Isaiah 53:5

Monday, March 29th

1:30am-3:00am
Trial 1: Annas, former Jewish High Priest for 16 years - Jesus receives initial physical abuse

Trial 2: Current Jewish High Priest, Caiaphas, and the Sanhedrin Court - Jesus bloodied by abuse

Trial 3: All the Jewish elders, including the High Priest, scribes and whole Sanhedrin. They decide to ask the Roman government to kill Jesus

6:00am-7:00am
Trial 4: Hearing before Roman governor Pilate, who declares, "I find no guilt in this man."

7:00am-7:30am
Trial 5: Hearing before Herod Antipas, the son of Herod the Great, who had jurisdiction over Galilee. Jesus refused to answer any questions so Herod returned him quickly to Pilate

7:30am-8:30am
Trial 6: Pilate repeatedly tried to release Jesus but the Jewish leaders continued to object. Pilate physically tortured and beat Jesus beyond recognition seeking to satisfy the Jewish leaders. However the Jews demanded that Jesus be crucified. Pilate resisted but eventually gave the order to execute Jesus

8:30am-9:00am
Pilate's Roman soldiers take Jesus into the court ("Praetorium") and enjoy mockery and continued torture, including driving thorns into his skull

9:00am-12:00noon
Jesus forced to carry his own cross, then actual crucifixion

12:00noon-3:00pm
Momentous final 3 hours on the cross

Some of the things that Jesus spoke from the cross:

"Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do."
Jesus is talking about his executioners because they do not understand or know that Jesus is God.

"My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"
Jesus (quoting a line from the Jewish scriptures) cries out at a moment in time when he is not just physically punished, but spiritually separated from God, his Father. God separates Himself from Jesus because all of the evils of mankind are placed on Jesus. This spiritual separation is the heaviest sacrifice which Jesus pays of behalf of mankind, so that mankand does not need to suffer spiritual separation from God.

"It is finished."
Once Jesus felt he had borne the penalty for the evils of mankind, he declared his mission as accomplished.

"Assuredly I tell you, today you will be with me in Paradise."
These words, spoken to a thief also being executed with Jesus, indicates Jesus' belief that Jesus would continue to live in paradise (heaven) and that Jesus can choose who will be there with him.

"Father, into your hands I commit my spirit."
Jesus believes his spirit, not body, now goes to heaven with God.

3:00pm
Death
Burial

Sunday, April 4th - Easter Sunday
Resurrection! Jesus is alive!

Friends, the tomb is empty!! He is risen! And He's coming back for us. Jesus is the best do-over button we could ever hope for! His grace is enough. And His grace covers you. There's nothing that you have done - or can do - that is bigger than Jesus' ability AND willingness to forgive. In short, you can't "out-sin" the cross. He is alive indeed, but certainly not without nail-pierced hands. Those scars are for you. For me. Accept His gift. Let Him love you today. He wants nothing more. And I want nothing more for you."

I couldn't have said it better myself! Go enjoy Jesus!

Q & A with Dr. Oz

I know it's been a while and I promise to update you all on the amazing happenings soon, but today I want to share a post with you from a Q&A with Dr. Oz. If this sounds even vaguely familiar for you, or describes someone you know, let's talk and find your\their joy!!

Q. ... I'm 5'1", 200 pounds, and eating is my only pleasure. I have bipolar disorder, fibromyalgia, diabetes, and high blood pressure. I am so unhappy with me. What can I do? -- Carmen, via e-mail

A. What struck us first about your letter was the phrase "eating is my only pleasure," so we're going to help you tackle that first. Some people will tell you that you can't squash your problems with chocolate or a bag of chips, but your brain chemistry would beg to differ. The only problem food really solves is hunger, but it does bring us pleasure. Eating sugary foods or carbohydrates helps us score the feel-good brain chemicals serotonin and dopamine. They boost your mood and make you forget for a moment that you're stressed, bored, angry, sad, or in pain. But of course, the second you're finished, the pain returns, and you need sugar again . . . causing a long-term problem from a very short-term gain.

But there are other more healthful foods that can turn on that "natural Prozac" faucet in your brain. Eating a couple of slices of low-fat turkey can ramp up serotonin levels because it contains the raw material -- tryptophan -- that your body uses to make it; it's also a protein that contains the amino acids your body uses to keep your dopamine levels healthy. But we're willing to bet that you actually get very little pleasure from food because you don't take the time to savor it. If you must have a candy bar, choose healthier dark chocolate, and make eating it last a good 10 minutes, during which you pay attention to the flavor and the pleasure you feel. Today, sit down and write a list of other things that make you feel good, from talking to friends to flying a kite, and whip it out whenever you have the urge to eat your way out of your problems. Time to learn that pleasure comes in many forms. That may solve one of your problems for a longer term.

Exciting & New....

... Sports Performance Nutrition

As a FirstFitness Leader, I was recently treated to 4 luxurious days at the magnificent Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas. I was also given the opportunity to sample the 2 BRAND NEW FirstFitness products, SPN Energy and SPN Rehydration drinks.

I can't wait to receive these products and introduce them to everyone I know! They are phenomenal! I've been doing some studying and research since I've been back and have found that our NEW REHYDRATION DRINK has less calories and more electrolytes per serving than Gatorade and Powerade! This makes it great for everyone who needs rehydration.

Who needs rehydration? EVERYONE!

75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated. (Likely applies to half the world population) In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is often mistaken for hunger. Even mild dehydration will slow down one's metabolism as much as 3%. One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University of Washington study.

Want More Energy?

Avoid Sugar!

Feeling a bit sluggish? Anxious? Depressed? Before you reach for that candy bar or sweet roll as “comfort food,” you’d better read this!

While sugar may give you the quick “jolt” of energy you need and make you feel better initially, it’s followed by an equally quick “letdown.” Eating sugar causes erratic swings in your blood sugar levels which affect your moods and your energy levels. Many people experience continuous rapid fluctuations as they eat even more sugar to “bounce back” from the lows!

The holidays offer prime opportunities for increased sugar consumption. So… before eating another piece of chocolate, another cookie, or another piece of cake… consider these alternatives that give you energy and boost your mood – especially important during this time of the year.

• Drink lots of water (1/2 your body weight in ounces/milliliters per day) to avoid dehydration and combat fatigue.

• Eat foods that are rich in Omega-3 fats (e.g., salmon, walnuts and canola oil) that boost your mood naturally!

• Consider eating a banana or drinking a banana smoothie made with a banana, ice and skim milk. Bananas and green, leafy vegetables help to release more dopamine in the brain, a chemical that has “feel good” effects on mood.

• Try to eat 4-5 meals per day to keep blood sugar levels steady and provide the energy you need to keep you going throughout the day.

• Drink a soothing cup of black tea to calm stress and help you relax.

• Increase the amount of protein in your diet to help you stay alert. Try a grilled chicken sandwich or some black bean soup for lunch to supply the energy to stay focused through the usually “sluggish” afternoon hours.

• Eat an apple or another type of fruit that contains natural sugar, is easily digested, and provides vital nutrition to keep your engine running!

• Don’t skip breakfast. You’ve heard it many times and it’s true – breakfast really is the most important meal of the day. It gives you the fuel you need to get going after the long period of fasting while you’re asleep.

• Eat whole grains found in bread, brown rice, and sugar-free cereals. Whole grains are loaded with essential amino acids that the body isn’t able to produce on its own. Amino acids are vital to the brain because they produce neurotransmitters, which are necessary for proper nervous system function. Whole grains also digest slowly, keeping blood sugar and energy levels balanced throughout the day.*

The Suddenly Slim! 10 Day Cleansing & Weight Loss Program can also help correct body chemistry imbalances while reigniting and resetting the body to burn fat instead of storing it. The Suddenly Slim Cleansing & Weight Loss Program gives a true metabolic reset, which will aid in keeping the weight off. This is a program that focuses on cleansing the body and can be used by all, even if you don’t need to lose weight. We have had success helping hundreds of people lose weight with this program, even those with diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, fybromyalgia, and other health conditions.

Liver Renewal

If you talk to radiologists and gastroenterologists who are looking at people's livers today, they will tell you that the condition called "Fatty Liver" affects more than 50% of people over the age of 50. Common causes are poor diet, excessive alcohol intake, adverse reactions to pharmaceutical drugs and toxic chemicals, and viral hepatitis.

Lipomax10 is an all natural, safe remedy designed to help relieve the following problems: inflammation from fluid retention; general fatigue and weakness; allergies and chemical sensitivities; skin disturbances (acne); fat accumulation; digestive complaints; sluggish bowels; abdominal distention, pain and tenderness; yellowish skin; and difficult weight loss.

Are you:

• Interested in supporting a healthy liver?
• Having trouble losing weight?
• Bloated in the abdomen and throughout the body?
• Suffering from allergy symptoms?
• Unusually tired for no particular reason?

The Problem:

The liver is a large organ that filters toxins and chemicals from the body.
Over time and as we age, if we are not following a complete internal
cleansing regimen, the liver can get overworked as it tries to keep up with
its filtering responsibilities. With the many toxins we ingest from the air we
breathe, to the food we eat, and the water we drink, the liver can end up
congested and unable to efficiently process toxins from the body. Body
functions can become slow or inactive altogether, due to an overload of
toxins in the liver. A toxic liver can cause sluggishness, fatigue, weight
gain, allergies, bloating, etc.

The Solution:

LipoMax10 is a phytonutrient complex which provides total support for liver
health. LipoMax10 was formulated to protect liver cells from damage,
stimulate the growth of new liver cells, and optimize liver functions that are
vital for good health.

The liver plays a major role in metabolizing nutrients, detoxifying the body
of poisons, and maintaining overall health and vitality. Unfortunately the
liver is often damaged and becomes sluggish by an onslaught of toxic
chemicals, drugs, and pollutants from modern life. LipoMax10 can help
counteract these challenges.

The Results

LipoMax10 helps the body in five primary ways:
• Helps relieve the symptoms of bloating, fatigue, water retention,
allergies, sluggish bowels, and a sluggish metabolism.
• Increases the intracellular level of antioxidants needed for proper liver
cell protection.
• Aids the body in detoxification—turning harmful foreign agents such as
pollutants, chemicals, naturally occurring toxins, and drugs into
harmless substances.
• Assists with stimulating the liver to form new cells that replace old or
damaged liver cells.
• Helps decrease fat deposits in the liver, thus helping to lower blood
cholesterol and triglyceride levels.

Zzzzzz.....

...or maybe not

Research shows that insomnia & poor sleep patterns often result in weight gain, depression, sugar cravings & food addictions.

Insomnia is a broad term that describes difficulties with sleep, including the inability to fall asleep or to stay asleep and is becoming a common problem.

Are you:

Regularly waking up at night, instead of sleeping soundly through the night?

Finding that you’re exhausted, but yet you still cannot fall asleep?

Dreading the alarm going off in the morning because you cannot fall asleep until very late at night?

Traveling and need help with jet lag?

The Problem:

Insomnia is a common problem in America today. For various reasons, many of us are chronically sleep deprived. Sleep deprivation contributes to a multitude of problems including: car accidents due to drivers falling asleep at the wheel, compromised immune systems which result in frequent illnesses, on-the-job accidents that result in injury, etc. Repeatedly we’ve learned that a minimum of 7-8 hours sleep is essential for peak mental and physical performance, as well as for weight management. Literally, if our brains and bodies do not rest for an adequate amount of time, we develop hormone imbalances, and this can drastically affect our waistline. Getting adequate sleep is just as important as vigorous activity for overall wellness.

In order to achieve optimum health, the sleep period is vitally important to our overall recovery and rejuvenation from the everyday stresses of life.

The Solution:

Delta State® - Get a great nights sleep—naturally*

Although some people may suffer from restless nights, there’s no need to suffer from sleep deprivation any longer. With the regular use of Delta State, Sleep Cycle Synchronizer, you can quickly regain a restful sleep cycle. Delta State combines natural homeopathic medicines that produce a calm and restful sleep, helping you easily drift off and stay asleep for the remainder of the night. Delta State uses the power of Melatonin and other herbs such as Valerian Root, to counteract free-radical damage, lack of sleep, jet lag, and a hectic lifestyle while it helps restore your sleep cycles.

The Results:

Delta State can enhance and regulate sleep with regular use

Can be used daily with no harmful side effects

Promotes, calm, restful sleep to help combat jet lag or other sleep disorders

Helps you remain asleep so that you’ll receive a restful night’s sleep

Awaken feeling refreshed, rejuvenated, and energized

You’ll more easily maintain your weight once you allow your body to regularly manufacture the appropriate amount of the hormone, Leptin, which turns off your appetite and helps you feel satiated after eating.

Restores decreasing levels of Melatonin to the body, allowing your sleep cycle to be quickly restored.

Provides the body with Valerian Root, which helps relieve stress, anxiety and nervousness, and can help support restful sleep.

Helps restore the body’s Niacin level. Niacin is a form of Vitamin B-3 and is well-known for its sleep enhancing properties.

Additionally:

Delta State is an anti-aging and sleep cycle synchronizer for natural deep and restful sleep while regulating body cycle rhythms. Consistently take them every night to regulate sleep patterns.

It’s not a sleeping pill; it simply puts you into the most restful state of sleep - the Delta State - without making you feel “hungover” the next day!

Some people take one Delta State with their lunch and\or dinner Slim 'n Up and this helps to promote weight loss. Most people eat from stress and it becomes a nervous habit which turns into an addiction thus promoting obesity. When the edge is removed from the stress our bodies are calmer and we do not tend to eat out of boredom.

Elixir of Life...

from yeah whatever...to love it!

Ok, so aside from my faith in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, I'm a skeptic! If I get an email about politics or missing children, I immediately go to Snopes. If I'm doing something at work, I always want to test it extensively before implementing it. Ask anyone in my family, hearing is not believing for me. You have to show me! Show me documented evidence or something physical. One of my pet peeves is when people just repeat things they've heard without researching the truth!

When my cousin started trying to sell me on this "Amazon Elixir", I was not interested. I mean I had tried Mona Vie when my in-laws started using it. (By tried, I mean I took it once and didn't like the taste or the price and wrote it off.) Well, then FirstFitness combined Zavita with their Wellness line, so I decided to do my research. At the time, Jason, my husband, was going through a fit with one infection after another and was having trouble sleeping at night. Given the following claims with more than 350 scientific studies to back it up, I decided to give it a shot:

  • Strengthen the immune system*
  • Reduce pain & inflammation*
  • Support healthy joint function*
  • Improve mental clarity*
  • Enhance deep restful sleep*
  • Increase longevity*

  • "The daily use of Zavita provides the body’s cells with high levels of antioxidants that absorb and neutralize free radicals to help our bodies fight disease."

Additionally, it is listed in the Physician’s Desk Reference (PDR) for Nonprescription Drugs, Supplements and Herbs, unlike competitive products.

So, we tried it and we love it! Within 2 days, I noticed that I felt better, more alert and was just in a better mood. Jason started sleeping better that very night. We have turned to Zavita when we've had headaches, stomach aches, felt a cold coming on, or just been drained by life itself.

    Confessions of a Sugar Junkie

"Hello my name is Amy and I'm a Sugar Addict"....

Most people know by now that I am a distributor for FirstFitness. Knowing this, some people constantly watch what I eat and question me. If my brother-in-law catches me "cheating" he is quick to point it out. (He has lost over 20 lbs, so he's entitled!)

"Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective." - James 5:16

I have to confess that since we took the youth group to Universal Studios, I have been on a roll, let's say a big, fat jelly-roll! I did pretty good while I was on the trip, but coming back and having my mother-in-law in the hospital, I have fallen into the fast food rut. I've found that one mishap leads to another.

Now, none of this is an acceptable excuse for my behavior. There are healthy choices available even at Wendy's and McDonald's.

You see the truth is, before I lost 20 lbs with Suddenly Slim! back in May, I was a sugar addict. Just like any addict, once you get a taste of the poison, you just want more. In the past 5 days, I have been off the wagon and I mean BIGGIE time! We're talking ice cream, Apple Crumble from Red Lobster, cheddar biscuits, garlic bread, Snickers, Chips Ahoy, M&Ms, Wendy's Chicken Nuggets and the list goes on...

So, the wages of sin is death and the wages of sugar, grease and fat are pure misery, (with a side of parasites)! I have been bloated, tired and lazy, nauseous, constipated, gassy, and grumpy, not to mention that my skin is dry and blemished and my hair is falling out! Now, you're thinking this is extreme and I'm exaggerating, but it's just the absolute, cold, hard truth, with nothing held back! (Remember, I said I was here to be real!)

"Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body." -1 Corinthians 6:19-20

Today is a new day my friends! Today, I am back on the wagon! I am restoring the temple, giving it a good cleansing and starting over with the 10-Day Program, not for weight loss, but for good health! This program is designed to help cleanse and detoxify the intestinal system. A cleaner intestinal system helps enhance the absorption of vitamins, minerals and herbal extracts, thereby, optimizing weight management. Fortunately, I haven't yet gained a lot of weight ( < 2 lbs) as a result of my over-indulging, since my body's "set point" has been reset already. (More about "set point" later.)

I can't wait to tell you more about how cleansing improves your energy, mental clarity and overall health! But enough for now, go out and have a fabulous Monday and thanks for allowing me to confess!

    Where to begin?

There are so many things I want to share here, I just don't know where to begin.

I want to tell you about my spiritual transformation over the past 5 years. I want to tell you about my physical renewal over the past 5 months. I want to tell you about all the things I've learned along the way. Most of all, I don't want to overload you with a bunch of stuff that nobody cares about but me!

I want to entertain you and enlighten you all at the same time! I want words to come out and then to be enlightened by them myself. (If I keep using the word "enlighten", your going to think I'm a Buddhist or something...)

I mean for the most part, I'm just an average person, leading the typical, 30-something, small town, family life, but I think I'm more excited about life than the average person! I want that excitement to rub off on everyone around me! God put me here to be real and He is working through me in ways of which I am not worthy on my own!

    What is renewal?

    renew, restore, refresh, renovate, rejuvenate....

According to my dear friend Webster, renewal is many things and can be used in many contexts. Here, I hope to help others find self-renewal in the physical, emotional and spiritual forms. My focus will be on the following Webster interpretations of renewal:

to make like new: restore to freshness, vigor, or perfection
    to make new spiritually; regenerate

Don't get me wrong, I, in no way, mean to imply that I have this all figured out! I only know that my life has been renewed in so many ways, first spiritually and now physically, that I want to share and collaborate with others as they seek transformation!
