7 Good Reasons to Love Strawberries

Today I'm getting ready for the 14th Annual Bradford County Strawberry Festival.  I'll be there with the Live Fit Team promoting the Ultimate Body Challenge

I love strawberries and have them just about every morning at breakfast.  Not only are they yummy, here are 7 other reasons to love them!

1.  Antioxidants - Antioxidants protect your cells against the effects of free radicals. Free radicals are produced when your body breaks down food or is exposed to environmental hazards like smoke, radiation, etc. Free radicals damage cells, and may play a role in heart disease, cancer and other diseases, including wrinkles (not a disease I know but still...).

2.  Anti-inflammatory - Strawberries have phenols which fight against many inflammatory disorders, such as osteoarthritis, asthma and atherosclerosis, similar to the way that aspirin and ibuprofen do but without unwanted side effects like stomach and intestinal bleeding you get from excessive use of pain relievers.

3.  Combat Cancer - Free radicals and inflammation are at the root of most cancer.  The combination of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties of strawberries are a good line of defense in preventing some cancers!  (1+2=3)

4.  Healthy peepers - This is an important one for me because I'm blind as a bat and macular degeneration runs in my family.  The Archives of Ophthalmology recently published a study saying that  three or more servings of strawberries per day can decrease the possibility of contracting age-related macular degeneration by over one-third. I think 3 servings of strawbereris is a lot when you consider the sugar and would recommend you incorporate some of these other healthy-eye foods to defend against macular degeneration:  kale, spinach, tomatoes, carrots, broccoli, eggs, sunflower seeds, salmon and garlic)

5.  Fiber -  1 cup of strawberries has 3 grams of fiber and only 45 calories.  Fiber aids in healthy digestion, helps control blood pressure and helps prevent overeating.

6.  Vitamin C - 1 cup of strawberries has about 90 mg of Vitamin C, another powerful antioxidant that can help lower blood pressure, build up the immune system, and prevent eye diseases like macular degeneration and cataracts.

7.  Bone building - Strawberries also contain potassium, magnesium, manganese, and Vitamin K, all of which are important for building healthy and strong bones.

So, come out to the Strawberry Festival and see us or go to your local farmers' market and pick up some fresh, sweet strawberries!

5 Tips to recover from a Christmas Coma

Oh I over did it this weekend!

It all started with the Nettle's Sausage and French Toast I made for my family on Christmas Eve morning. It was fantastic!  Since we've been married, my husband and I have celebrated a psuedo-Christmas morning with our blended family. Our youngest daughter Rachel, the twins and their babies either spend the night or come over in the wee early hours of the morning on Christmas Eve and we pretend its Christmas day.  It gives us the opportunity to share in the magic of Christmas morning and not deprive them of having their own Christmas morning traditions at home.

At our house, I want that breakfast to be something remembered and my family loves my french toast. For Christmas, it comes with extra powdered sugar and Pampered Chef Sweet Cinnamon Sprinkles! Oh its delightful and it warms my heart for the kiddies to come back for seconds!

That was just the beginning of my poor nutritional choices, complete with homemade M&M cookies, homemade cinnamon rolls, a full southern Christmas lunch and movie theater popcorn!  Needless to say, I went to bed last night feeling rather miserable, with a headache and bloated belly.

This morning I slept in and woke up with recovery in mind.  I've shared these tips for Halloween and Thanksgiving and they are my go-to holiday recovery!

These five easy steps will get you back on target in no time:

1. Remove - If you have high-carb, sugary, fatty leftovers in the fridge, remove them immediately.  Either freeze them or trash them now. (I think I ate everything here, so no need for me to worry about this one;))

2. Re-hydrate - Flush out the excess acid, fats, etc. Drink extra water over the next few days to replenish lost fluids and to aid in digestion. Focus on drinking at least half of your body weight in ounces. For example if you weigh 150 pounds, drink at least 75 ounces of water each day. We also recommend SPN Rehydration to re-hydrate.  It's an all natural sports drink with very little sugar and only 40 calories. (I've got my 20 oz. water bottle loaded and ready.  If you have one with a straw, you'll drink even more water without realizing it).

3. Refuel - If you're diet over the last few days has been typical of most Christmas indulgences, your digestive system has been in overdrive! Focus on getting as many raw fruits and veggies as possible this week. Remember, sugar weakens the immune system so the more fruits and veggies you can get over the next few days, the better.  An easy and convenient way to get a balanced meal with added nutrients from nutritious veggies is with a meal enhancement shake and super green supplement.  A shake like the Body FX from FirstFitness Nutrition gives you the vitamins and minerals of a complete meal and is easily digested to get you back on the right track super fast.  Adding the Vital Green adds important antioxidants to strengthen the immune system and help fend off winter colds. (Made my yummy shake in my new Magic Bullet that I got for Christmas from my sweet hubby!)

4. Recommit - Often times guilt follows our over-indulgence and that's understandable.  However, it does not move us forward, it only ties us to our mistakes.  Get over it, move on and recommit to your healthy eating habits starting today! Get out and take a walk, get back in the gym.  It'll give you more energy to get geared up for the New Year!

5. Rest - Drink a full glass of water before bed, take your vitamins, have a cup of tea and relax. Rejuvenate your body with at least 7 hours of sleep each night. (Fortunately, I'm off today and have vowed not to get out of my PJs!)

If your ready to take control of your health and make a lasting transformation, be sure to take advantage of our Life by Design!  Order it this week and get a FREE Trimbolic as my personal gift to you!

4 Tips to Bounce Back from Thanksgiving

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving.  We had a great time with family and lots of food, shopping, and candy-making. Needless to say, we ate way too much, but its okay. Today we get back on the track, eating right and focusing on our goals.

These four easy steps will get you back on target in no time:

1. Remove - If you have high-carb, sugary, fatty leftovers in the fridge, remove them immediately.  Either freeze them or trash them now. Don't let them linger and tempt you. I personally threw out 2 slices of my mom's homemade pumpkin pie last night.

3. Refuel - If you're diet over the last few days has been typical of most Thanksgiving meals, your digestive system has been in overdrive!

4. Recommit - Often times guilt follows our over-indulgence and that's understandable.  However, it does not move us forward, it only ties us to our mistakes.  Get over it, move on and recommit to your healthy eating habits starting today! Get out and take a walk, get back in the gym.  It'll give you more energy to get geared up for Christmas!

Here's a bonus tip:

5. Rest - Drink a full glass of water before bed, take your vitamins, have a cup of tea and relax. Rejuvenate your body with at least 7 hours of sleep each night.

Recover from your Halloween Hangover

Good morning! How are you feeling today?  Candy or cocktails got you rundown? Tired? Sluggish?  Too much Halloween fun?

Halloween seems to be a time when all of our inhibitions are thrown to the ghouls and we take on an "anything goes" mentality. As parents and grandparents, we permit staying up late and eating lots of candy for our kids and then sneak into their candy after they've gone to bed. I mean, every piece we eat is a piece they won't, right?  If you don't have children, maybe you dress up and party with your friends, pretending the sugar and cocktails aren't affecting you, but you're costumed character.

Either way, this morning you may have awaken to a Halloween Hangover. Whether it be sugar or alcohol induced, here are some tips for overcoming the monster within you today:

1. Remove - If you have leftover candy and sweet treats left laying around this morning, remove them immediately.  Either find a place to donate it or package it into individual snacks to be used through out the year.  If you keep the candy, put it in a place that is out of sight and hard to reach.

2. Rehydrate - Halloween comes with high sugar consumption and high activity levels.  Its easy to overlook your body's need for hydration.  Drink extra water over the next few days to replenish lost fluids and to aid in digestion. This is especially important if you had a few adult beverages last night. We also use SPN Rehydration to combat dehydration at our house.  It's an all natural sports drink with very little sugar and only 40 calories.

3. Refuel - If you're diet over the last few days has not been the most nutritiously balanced, load up on vitamins and minerals for the rest of the week.  Keep in mind that sugar weakens the immune system so the more fruits and veggies you can get over the next few days, the better.  An easy and convenient way to get a balanced meal with added nutrients from nutritious veggies is with the BodyFx Meal Replacement Shake and Vital Green.  That shake gives you the vitamins and minerals of a complete meal and is easily digested to get you back on the right track super fast.  Adding the Vital Green adds important antioxidants to combat the preservatives, colorings, and chemicals consumed through junk food and candy.

4. Recommit - Often times guilt follows our over-indulgence and that's understandable.  However, it does not move us forward, it only ties us to our mistakes.  Get over it, move on and recommit to your healthy eating habits starting today!

Healing Power of the Amazon Rainforest...

. . . the earth's greatest living natural pharmacy Zavita, a legendary plant recipe comprised of seven of the world's most powerful healing botanicals, is known among the Amazon's indigenous peoples and tribal healers as "Elixa-da-Vida"—the "Elixir of Life"

On the April 13 Product Training Call, Chairman Lee Causey and Dr. Pete Coon, of our medical advisory board, discussed the the life-changing benefits of Zavita.

Chairman Lee Causey cited the more than 350 scientific studies that support the health benefits in the indigenous plants contained in Zavita. These Ingredients are backed by over 20 years of published research, more than 50 clinical trials on humans, more than 200 laboratory studies evaluating the biological activities of each extract, and more than 100 ethnomedical reports documenting the use of the Amazon Rainforest botanicals in Zavita by traditional tribal healers and natural medicine practitioners

Lee explained that although cells continue to renew themselves, because we are bombarded with free radicals, the cell duplication process is stifled and our bodies begin degeneration, and that Zavita feeds the cells with proper nutrients to regenerate and help us maintain vitality and strength as we age.

Dr. Pete Coon is a health and wellness expert and medical and veterinary forensic pathologist, a professor of medical and veterinary forensic pathology and infectious diseases, a published author, and one of the most informative lecturers in the area of health, wellness and preventative medicine.

Dr. Coon explained that more and more people are turning to alternatives and botanicals for healing. He went on to say that the 8 botanicals in Zavita have been in the business of healing for millions of years serving as anti-viral, anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, and anti-stress agents.

"Zavita can change a person's mental, physical and emotional well being. It can help all the systems of the body work together in synergy. Nothing on the market comes close to Zavita. It is one of greatest preventative tonics we can take to boost the immune system and the healing process." Dr. Pete Coon

Exciting & New Part 2...

...Energy!

Everyone's looking for it. For me, its about 2:00 in the afternoon when I start thinking about how I could get a little more juice for the next couple of hours in the office. Many people reach for coffee, Coke, Pepsi and more recently, an Energy Drink!

The problem is that most energy drinks are full of sugar, which means high calories, and full of artificial, pharmaceutically manufactured, ingredients. This is not good for those of us who are health or weight conscious.

Well there's good news my friends! FirstFitness has developed an all natural, great tasting, sugar-free energy drink with just 20 calories - SPN Energy! I sampled this product along with the Rehydration drink while I was in Las Vegas! It truly tastes amazing and I could feel the energy and increased mental alertness within 10 minutes!

SPN ENERGY contains a powerful, natural array of essential vitamins, amino acids, and nutrients to help create a higher level of performance, sharpened mental focus and a clean, healthy sustained source of energy that lasts for hours.*

Drink SPN ENERGY to start your day, before exercise, or when you feel like you're running on empty.

If you follow me on Twitter or Facebook, you know that we are also attending the first public tasting (in the U.S.) for both of these amazing new products tomorrow in Weeki Wachee, FL. The founder of the company and wellness pioneer, Lee Causey, will be there to do product trianing as well as the president of FirstFitness, Nigel Branson, who helped develop the new formulas! We still have a few tickets left for the event, so if you or someone you know need more ENERGY, come with us!!

Click the image below to compare SPN ENERGY to other leading energy drinks!

Did you know that "the energy drink market became a $5.4 billion dollar market in 2007, and both Goldman Sachs and Mintel predict that it will hit $10 billion by 2010"?**

Want More Energy?

Avoid Sugar!

Feeling a bit sluggish? Anxious? Depressed? Before you reach for that candy bar or sweet roll as “comfort food,” you’d better read this!

While sugar may give you the quick “jolt” of energy you need and make you feel better initially, it’s followed by an equally quick “letdown.” Eating sugar causes erratic swings in your blood sugar levels which affect your moods and your energy levels. Many people experience continuous rapid fluctuations as they eat even more sugar to “bounce back” from the lows!

The holidays offer prime opportunities for increased sugar consumption. So… before eating another piece of chocolate, another cookie, or another piece of cake… consider these alternatives that give you energy and boost your mood – especially important during this time of the year.

• Drink lots of water (1/2 your body weight in ounces/milliliters per day) to avoid dehydration and combat fatigue.

• Eat foods that are rich in Omega-3 fats (e.g., salmon, walnuts and canola oil) that boost your mood naturally!

• Consider eating a banana or drinking a banana smoothie made with a banana, ice and skim milk. Bananas and green, leafy vegetables help to release more dopamine in the brain, a chemical that has “feel good” effects on mood.

• Try to eat 4-5 meals per day to keep blood sugar levels steady and provide the energy you need to keep you going throughout the day.

• Drink a soothing cup of black tea to calm stress and help you relax.

• Increase the amount of protein in your diet to help you stay alert. Try a grilled chicken sandwich or some black bean soup for lunch to supply the energy to stay focused through the usually “sluggish” afternoon hours.

• Eat an apple or another type of fruit that contains natural sugar, is easily digested, and provides vital nutrition to keep your engine running!

• Don’t skip breakfast. You’ve heard it many times and it’s true – breakfast really is the most important meal of the day. It gives you the fuel you need to get going after the long period of fasting while you’re asleep.

• Eat whole grains found in bread, brown rice, and sugar-free cereals. Whole grains are loaded with essential amino acids that the body isn’t able to produce on its own. Amino acids are vital to the brain because they produce neurotransmitters, which are necessary for proper nervous system function. Whole grains also digest slowly, keeping blood sugar and energy levels balanced throughout the day.*

The Suddenly Slim! 10 Day Cleansing & Weight Loss Program can also help correct body chemistry imbalances while reigniting and resetting the body to burn fat instead of storing it. The Suddenly Slim Cleansing & Weight Loss Program gives a true metabolic reset, which will aid in keeping the weight off. This is a program that focuses on cleansing the body and can be used by all, even if you don’t need to lose weight. We have had success helping hundreds of people lose weight with this program, even those with diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, fybromyalgia, and other health conditions.

Liver Renewal

If you talk to radiologists and gastroenterologists who are looking at people's livers today, they will tell you that the condition called "Fatty Liver" affects more than 50% of people over the age of 50. Common causes are poor diet, excessive alcohol intake, adverse reactions to pharmaceutical drugs and toxic chemicals, and viral hepatitis.

Lipomax10 is an all natural, safe remedy designed to help relieve the following problems: inflammation from fluid retention; general fatigue and weakness; allergies and chemical sensitivities; skin disturbances (acne); fat accumulation; digestive complaints; sluggish bowels; abdominal distention, pain and tenderness; yellowish skin; and difficult weight loss.

Are you:

• Interested in supporting a healthy liver?
• Having trouble losing weight?
• Bloated in the abdomen and throughout the body?
• Suffering from allergy symptoms?
• Unusually tired for no particular reason?

The Problem:

The liver is a large organ that filters toxins and chemicals from the body.
Over time and as we age, if we are not following a complete internal
cleansing regimen, the liver can get overworked as it tries to keep up with
its filtering responsibilities. With the many toxins we ingest from the air we
breathe, to the food we eat, and the water we drink, the liver can end up
congested and unable to efficiently process toxins from the body. Body
functions can become slow or inactive altogether, due to an overload of
toxins in the liver. A toxic liver can cause sluggishness, fatigue, weight
gain, allergies, bloating, etc.

The Solution:

LipoMax10 is a phytonutrient complex which provides total support for liver
health. LipoMax10 was formulated to protect liver cells from damage,
stimulate the growth of new liver cells, and optimize liver functions that are
vital for good health.

The liver plays a major role in metabolizing nutrients, detoxifying the body
of poisons, and maintaining overall health and vitality. Unfortunately the
liver is often damaged and becomes sluggish by an onslaught of toxic
chemicals, drugs, and pollutants from modern life. LipoMax10 can help
counteract these challenges.

The Results

LipoMax10 helps the body in five primary ways:
• Helps relieve the symptoms of bloating, fatigue, water retention,
allergies, sluggish bowels, and a sluggish metabolism.
• Increases the intracellular level of antioxidants needed for proper liver
cell protection.
• Aids the body in detoxification—turning harmful foreign agents such as
pollutants, chemicals, naturally occurring toxins, and drugs into
harmless substances.
• Assists with stimulating the liver to form new cells that replace old or
damaged liver cells.
• Helps decrease fat deposits in the liver, thus helping to lower blood
cholesterol and triglyceride levels.

Need a few days off?

...Catch a Cold

Some people seem to expect a bout with a cold or the flu each year. If you haven’t had your quota yet, here are some things you can do:

Eat a poor diet. If you want to catch a cold, make sure your body lacks the vitamins and minerals it needs to keep itself in good repair. Eat lots of processed foods, stripped of their nutritional value.

Avoid adequate rest. Deprive yourself of adequate rest. Stay up late and reduce the time you sleep as much as possible. Use tobacco, coffee and other stimulants to fool yourself into thinking you have more than enough energy.

Stop exercising. Reduce the effectiveness of your immune and lymphatic systems. Unlike the circulatory system, your lymphatic system depends upon exercise and movement to circulate these germ-fighting fluids, so sit on the couch and stare at the TV.

Rarely wash your hands. Increase your chances of catching a cold by compromising your personal hygiene. Remember to use your dirty hands and fingers to rub your eyes, pick your nose or wipe your lips.

Think negative thoughts. Look for opportunities to visualize having a cold. Pay attention to news reports about outbreaks of the flu and pay close attention to advertising that sells medications for cold sufferers.

Invite stress. Stress yourself physically by experiencing extreme temperature and humidity changes. Stress yourself mentally with constant worry or fear.

Become dehydrated. Avoid drinking enough water. Reduce the effectiveness of your natural defense mechanisms and other bodily functions by carefully avoiding fluids.

Of course I'm joking! The only way to catch a cold or the flu is to make yourself a hospitable host to the millions of cold and flu germs around you every day.

Keep your immune system boosted with daily multi-vitamins, lots of green veggies, and high antioxidant herbal elixirs.

Zzzzzz.....

...or maybe not

Research shows that insomnia & poor sleep patterns often result in weight gain, depression, sugar cravings & food addictions.

Insomnia is a broad term that describes difficulties with sleep, including the inability to fall asleep or to stay asleep and is becoming a common problem.

Are you:

Regularly waking up at night, instead of sleeping soundly through the night?

Finding that you’re exhausted, but yet you still cannot fall asleep?

Dreading the alarm going off in the morning because you cannot fall asleep until very late at night?

Traveling and need help with jet lag?

The Problem:

Insomnia is a common problem in America today. For various reasons, many of us are chronically sleep deprived. Sleep deprivation contributes to a multitude of problems including: car accidents due to drivers falling asleep at the wheel, compromised immune systems which result in frequent illnesses, on-the-job accidents that result in injury, etc. Repeatedly we’ve learned that a minimum of 7-8 hours sleep is essential for peak mental and physical performance, as well as for weight management. Literally, if our brains and bodies do not rest for an adequate amount of time, we develop hormone imbalances, and this can drastically affect our waistline. Getting adequate sleep is just as important as vigorous activity for overall wellness.

In order to achieve optimum health, the sleep period is vitally important to our overall recovery and rejuvenation from the everyday stresses of life.

The Solution:

Delta State® - Get a great nights sleep—naturally*

Although some people may suffer from restless nights, there’s no need to suffer from sleep deprivation any longer. With the regular use of Delta State, Sleep Cycle Synchronizer, you can quickly regain a restful sleep cycle. Delta State combines natural homeopathic medicines that produce a calm and restful sleep, helping you easily drift off and stay asleep for the remainder of the night. Delta State uses the power of Melatonin and other herbs such as Valerian Root, to counteract free-radical damage, lack of sleep, jet lag, and a hectic lifestyle while it helps restore your sleep cycles.

The Results:

Delta State can enhance and regulate sleep with regular use

Can be used daily with no harmful side effects

Promotes, calm, restful sleep to help combat jet lag or other sleep disorders

Helps you remain asleep so that you’ll receive a restful night’s sleep

Awaken feeling refreshed, rejuvenated, and energized

You’ll more easily maintain your weight once you allow your body to regularly manufacture the appropriate amount of the hormone, Leptin, which turns off your appetite and helps you feel satiated after eating.

Restores decreasing levels of Melatonin to the body, allowing your sleep cycle to be quickly restored.

Provides the body with Valerian Root, which helps relieve stress, anxiety and nervousness, and can help support restful sleep.

Helps restore the body’s Niacin level. Niacin is a form of Vitamin B-3 and is well-known for its sleep enhancing properties.

Additionally:

Delta State is an anti-aging and sleep cycle synchronizer for natural deep and restful sleep while regulating body cycle rhythms. Consistently take them every night to regulate sleep patterns.

It’s not a sleeping pill; it simply puts you into the most restful state of sleep - the Delta State - without making you feel “hungover” the next day!

Some people take one Delta State with their lunch and\or dinner Slim 'n Up and this helps to promote weight loss. Most people eat from stress and it becomes a nervous habit which turns into an addiction thus promoting obesity. When the edge is removed from the stress our bodies are calmer and we do not tend to eat out of boredom.

....Good Night, Sleep Tight....

Elixir of Life...

from yeah whatever...to love it!

Ok, so aside from my faith in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, I'm a skeptic! If I get an email about politics or missing children, I immediately go to Snopes. If I'm doing something at work, I always want to test it extensively before implementing it. Ask anyone in my family, hearing is not believing for me. You have to show me! Show me documented evidence or something physical. One of my pet peeves is when people just repeat things they've heard without researching the truth!

When my cousin started trying to sell me on this "Amazon Elixir", I was not interested. I mean I had tried Mona Vie when my in-laws started using it. (By tried, I mean I took it once and didn't like the taste or the price and wrote it off.) Well, then FirstFitness combined Zavita with their Wellness line, so I decided to do my research. At the time, Jason, my husband, was going through a fit with one infection after another and was having trouble sleeping at night. Given the following claims with more than 350 scientific studies to back it up, I decided to give it a shot:

  • Strengthen the immune system*
  • Reduce pain & inflammation*
  • Support healthy joint function*
  • Improve mental clarity*
  • Enhance deep restful sleep*
  • Increase longevity*

  • "The daily use of Zavita provides the body’s cells with high levels of antioxidants that absorb and neutralize free radicals to help our bodies fight disease."

Additionally, it is listed in the Physician’s Desk Reference (PDR) for Nonprescription Drugs, Supplements and Herbs, unlike competitive products.

So, we tried it and we love it! Within 2 days, I noticed that I felt better, more alert and was just in a better mood. Jason started sleeping better that very night. We have turned to Zavita when we've had headaches, stomach aches, felt a cold coming on, or just been drained by life itself.
